The layout goes back to the 1931 city plan by the Italian architects Brasini and De Fausto, the same scheme that produced the ministry buildings, the town hall and the round fountain on the square, but the trees came later: on 28 November 1949 the city's young people were sent out to plant it, which is why it carries the name Youth Park.
