The building on the road running north-east from the centre was criticised for its angular geometry when it went up, and it housed the country's pair of most ce…The building on the road running north-east from the centre was criticised for its angular geometry when it went up, and it housed the country's pair of most celebrated authors on neighbouring floors: Ismail Kadare on the third from 1974 until the early 1990s, and the poet Dritëro Agolli on the fourth. Both flats are now a single municipal museum.

The point is less the furniture than the context: this is where Kadare wrote through the dictatorship, and the display sets the work against the surveillance and the censorship it was produced under. Guided visits are offered, and the museum states its purpose as education, aimed as much at Albanian schoolchildren as at foreign readers of the novels.
