Blloku carries most of the city's bars and clubs, with live music and wine bars spread through the surrounding streets.
Tirana's nightlife is concentrated in Blloku, and the reason is historical: until 1991 the quarter was sealed off for the party elite and ordinary Albanians could not enter it. When the barriers came down it filled with bars faster than anywhere else in the country, and it has stayed the centre of the city's evenings.
The pattern is late. Bars fill from ten, clubs do not get going until well after midnight, and the crowd moves between places on foot because everything is within a few streets. Live music venues and quieter wine bars sit around the edges of the quarter for anyone who wants a conversation.
