Shopping in Tirana splits between the market and the mall. Pazari i Ri is the one worth walking: a rebuilt produce market northeast of Skanderbeg Square selling mountain honey, cheese, olive oil, dried herbs and raki, ringed by bakeries and grill counters.
Souvenirs and crafts sit in the streets around the square and the boulevard, with more of the traditional material, filigree silver, wool and carved wood, sold up at Kruja's castle bazaar half an hour north. Modern shopping centres on and beyond the ring road carry the international chains. Bakeries are everywhere and are a category of their own here.
